The Dachshund is built low to the ground, with a long muscular body and short legs. Originally bred as a hunting dog, this hound has an excellent sense of smell and is well suited for below groundwork and beating the bush for quarry. The Dachshund is bold, intelligent, and courageous to the point of rashness. They have become so popular over the years that they are now available in two sizes and three coats. Dachshunds 11 pounds and under at maturity are considered miniature, while the Standard Dachshund is usually between 16 and 32 pounds. The coat varieties are smooth, long and wirehair.

The Bloodhound is a large, powerful dog that hunts by scent. It has loose skin that hangs in loose folds around the face and neck. Bloodhounds are an affectionate companion, sensitive and sometimes shy. They stand 24 to 27 inches at the shoulder and weigh between 80 and 110 pounds. Acceptable colors are Black and Tan, Liver and Tan and Red, with a small amount of white allowed on the chest, tip of stern, and feet. lap dog.

The Basenji is an elegant little hunting dog that hails from Africa. It is a well-balanced, smooth dog with a highly set curled tail. Its appearance is poised and very alert. The Basenji is one of the few hounds that can hunt by both sight and scent. They are an intelligent, independent breed that does not bark, but should not be considered mute. They stand 16 to 17 inches at the shoulder and colors include Chestnut Red, Black, Tricolor and Brindle.
